I was also both disappointed with Tuck Everlasting and loved Remember the Titans. Tuck Everlasting, I had truly never read the book until I saw the preview for the movie. It was a good book, a waste of $4.00 on the movie rental. There was just no real conclusion to it.
Remember the Titans is fantastic! What is there not to love about it? Good looking guys overcoming adversity not only on the footall field but also in the face of racism? Good God, Disney did amazingly well on that one...
A movie that sticks out in my mind is Dirty Dancing. I was in 1st grade and my mom and aunt took me to go see it (I hope my sister in law and I can take my neice to totally age inappropriate movies soon). I got the largest tub of popcorn you could get and ate it all. Think about this, I was 6.
Yes, a 6 year old girl eating a whole jumbo sized tub of popcorn. Then, going home and eating some kind of shrimp concoction.
Needless to say I remember that night not only for the cinematic greatness that is Dirty Dancing, but also for the hours I spent throwing up. Ahh, memories.

Just a random thought to add... Steve Martin actually wrote Shop Girl. I listened to it on cd during a drive from St. Louis to Kansas City (Lots of bill boards) a few years back. I guess with the name Steve Martin pushing it, there was little doubt that it'd someday be a movie.
